We’re really excited to have our joint session proposals accepted for the Arctic Congress 2024 in Bodø, Norway. Our session is titled “Fostering Food Security and Innovation for Northern Supply Chains.”
On that note, the Arctic Congress 2024 submission portal for Abstracts is now open.
The congress takes place from 29 May to 3 June 2024 in Bodø, Norway, hosted by Nordland Research Institute and Nord University. Bringing three conferences together in Bodø – European Capital of Culture 2024 – will be an extraordinary showcase of Arctic cooperation.

The themes of Arctic Congress Bodø 2024 follow those of Norway’s Arctic Council chairship priorities in partnership with the Norwegian Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Norway’s chairship of the Arctic Council focus on several core issues, including the impacts of climate change, sustainable development, and efforts to enhance the well-being of people living in the region. Looking to the future, Arctic Youth and Arctic Indigenous peoples, cross-cutting priorities of the Norwegian chairship, will also be overarching themes at Arctic Congress Bodø 2024.
They welcome abstracts for 118 sessions under four main themes: 1. oceans; 2. climate and environment 3. sustainable economic developments, 4. people of the North, and 5. other. The duration and format of the presentation (oral or poster) will be decided individually by the session convener(s) and subject to accepted number of abstracts. The sessions run either 60 or 90 minutes.
Fostering Food Security and Innovation for Northern Supply Chains
Our Session Abstract: Food security is a pressing issue in northern communities, where factors such as remoteness, limited access to fresh and affordable food, and the impacts of climate change pose significant challenges. Niriqatiginnga is an innovative, experimental and pilot framework that aims to address food insecurity and to promote sustainable food systems in Arctic regions. Our program focuses primarily on northern Manitoba and Kivalliq Nunavut, with our project based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This abstract presents an overview of the Niriqatiginnga framework, its objectives, and the strategies employed to foster food security, resilience, and innovation.
As a social program and an Inuit-designed technology platform, our pilot Niriqatiginnga framework operates at the intersection of technology, community engagement, and traditional knowledge exchange. It leverages data-driven research, collaboration with local communities, and partnerships with southern farmers, entrepreneurs, and food producers to tackle the complex issue of food insecurity. The framework emphasizes capacity building, education, and awareness to empower communities and enhance their self-sufficiency in food production and distribution.
Join us for a dynamic and interactive session that delves into the pressing issues of northern food insecurity, capacity building and skills development, and sustainable, environmentally- responsible northern supply chain optimization. Through a combination workshop and an engaging roundtable dialogue, we will explore innovative solutions and dialogues to address these challenges and empower our northern communities. Participants will be able to learn about Niriqatiginnga, which focuses on fostering resilience and innovation in northern food systems through collaborative discussions and interactive installations.
