A Facilitator’s Guide for Fostering Food Security and Innovation

May 31 @ 1:30 pm 3:00 pm

In Minnesota, Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) students enrolled in the Fall 2023 Bio systems class have combined their knowledge and talents to co-create a Facilitator’s Guide for Hosting Immersive Arts & Entrepreneurial workshops that bring us together to eat. This Guidebook has been created in collaboration with the Winnipeg-based @1860 Arts incubator and Niriqatiginnga project in Manitoba, Canada. This part of the session will be presented by Kami Norland and David Ly.

This international collaboration was inspired to foster food security and innovation in Northern Indigenous communities. Each chapter of the Facilitator’s Guide features the five stages of experiential design methodology that students have applied in the creation of sample workshops to provide entrepreneurs and innovators a creative template to engage, enthrall, and connect with their communities in meaningful ways that nourish their stomachs and belonging.

This Guide is in the process of being implemented throughout multiple Chambers of Commerce in Northern Indigenous communities to spur entrepreneurship and innovation in fostering food security and sovereignty. Throughout this 90-minute session conference participants will learn an overview of how the experiential design methodology can lead to transformational change, they will engage in an experiential design and hear from undergraduate creative entrepreneurship students on the development of this process based on the foundational learnings and partnership with Niriqatiginnga and the leadership from Northern Indigenous communities.
