Harvesting Resilience: Arts-Based and Participatory Approaches to Sustainable Northern Food Systems and Community Empowerment

May 31 @ 1:30 pm 3:00 pm

Join us for a paper presentation from co-authors Jamie Bell and Tony Eetak from the @1860 Arts incubator, and Kami Norland from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design as they present “Harvesting Resilience: Arts-Based and Participatory Approaches to Sustainable Northern Food Systems and Community Empowerment.”

This session, part of the Niriqatiginnga framework, focuses on addressing food security challenges in northern communities, particularly in northern Manitoba and Kivalliq Nunavut. The framework, operating at the intersection of arts, technology, and traditional knowledge exchange, aims to empower communities and enhance their self-sufficiency in food production and distribution.

Through collaboration with local communities and partnerships with southern farmers and entrepreneurs, the program seeks to tackle the complex issue of food insecurity. This study critically examines methodologies and approaches utilized in prior food security and arts-based participatory research initiatives, aiming to extract valuable insights to inform future program designs and contribute to more informed and impactful approaches towards ongoing and future food security programs. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about innovative strategies for fostering food security, resilience, and innovation in northern communities.
